Support British Flowers
It's time to help rejuvenate our flower farmers! Years ago, the UK had a tapestry of flower farmers on all scales and business boomed. The customer appreciated cottage garden flowers and all was rosy in the garden... However, over the past 30 years this industry declined to the point that just 10% of the flowers sold in Britain were actually grown here! There were lots of reasons for this decline but the mix between the consumer being bowled over by exotic foreign flowers, the fact that Holland is a brilliant distribution centre cheaper labour charges in Kenya, Colombia and beyond all played their part. The result is that when the Observer worked out the typical flower miles of a Valentine's Bouquet and they came in at a whopping 4365...
We are proud to be part of a movement to change all that... Nine years ago (yep - NINE years) we made a commitment to promote British Flowers.
Well, it turns out that as long as we are comfortable with including glasshouse flowers (which we are) then there is plenty of choice all year round without flying blooms half way around the World. These days I cannot remember a time where we have less than 12 types of flower and foliage in our floristry - some grown here on our farm, lots grown on other farms throughout the UK.
Now, you can do your bit... We would love you to make a commitment to buy British Flowers, and use these badges to show your commitment.
British Flowers are beautiful, scented and even better they are great for Wildlife, and so on behalf of the Birds, Bees, Bugs, and Butterflies of Great Britain we thank you kindly x

Please note: We buy our extra flowers in good faith that they are grown in Britain. Unlike Cows (!) that have passports and full traceability our flowers do not have this level of paper trail, therefore we buy from reputable farmers and suppliers on a trust basis. If we find out that any of our flowers are not grown in the UK we will investigate and take immediate action to ensure this does not happen again. We do reserve the right to bring in flowers from Europe if there is a major crop failure in the UK.
