Here are some of the most common mistakes brides make and how to avoid them!
Keep your Bouquet a Realistic Size
When it comes to your Bridal Bouquet
, bigger isn’t necessarily better. If you have a large and sprawling bouquet it will cover more of your dress, you will also save money by opting for a smaller Bridesmaids posy
– which is also perfect for using on a table. Also, do you really want to carry something that is really heavy, especially when posing for photos?
Keep Your Table Decorations Simple
Don’t make your table centres too large and complex, not only is this a common way that couples waste a lot of money but you will also hinder conversation on the tables between guests. Small jam jars and vases with just a few stems will be smaller but just as effective.
Trust Your Florist
Communicate your likes, dislikes, and expectations but give us a little flexibility. We want to make your wedding as stunning as beautiful as we can. Especially using seasonal British Flowers
, we may not be able to guarantee specific stems or shades, but we promise that your flowers will be absolutely stunning!
Use more than one colour
Don’t try to match the flowers to the bridesmaid dresses. A bridesmaid in a lavender gown with lavender flowers will make for rubbish pictures. Choose a range of colours and we will find flowers to work to that, always with some stunning green foliage! If in doubt order our Classic Style flowers
– in Creams, Whites and Greens – they will never fail to go!
Care for your Flowers
You’ve spent a fair bit on the flowers for your big day, it would be a shame if you didn’t look after them! Keep them in a cool, dry place and make sure you give them lots of water!
Reuse all of your Ceremony Flowers
Don’t just purchase flowers to be used in the ceremony (which probably lasts 30 mins), reuse them in your venue, it's a real shame to see so many flowers only being used for that amount of time when they could easily be incorporated into the reception decor! Aisle flowers and bridesmaid’s bouquets can become table center pieces and pedestals can be moved onto tables!
Don’t book your Florist Last
Speak to at least one vendor from each category before booking anyone. This way you can get an idea of how much things cost and how that affects your budget. Your flowers can be quite a chunk of your budget and your florist will also want to know a few details about your venue and your bridal party’s dress, so be sure to make contact sooner rather than later!
See the Big Picture
Try to visualize the whole reception room with you guests in it; don’t just concentrate on specific areas and single table centres. For example, some couples pay for a room with a wonderful view of the ocean or scenic surrounding and want tall, large centerpieces that can then obstruct the view.
Be happy to Compromise
The biggest mistake is for a bride to get your heart set on specific flowers or shade and not be flexible. We can do a much better job if the bride asks us for an overall look, feel, and color scheme and let our florists create it, we work better if you tell us the specific flowers or colours you would like us to avoid.
Communication is Key
Knowing what you like is just as important as knowing what you don't like. Send us lots of pictures and find examples of the type of things you want and you don’t want. The more communication there is, the less we have to fill gaps and guess. Pinterest
is perfect for this!
Remember to Budget for Flowers
Set aside a chunk of your budget for flowers right from the beginning, if you come to us with a specific idea of how much you would like to spend we will do all we can to help you get the most for your money and of course stick to the budget. Also don’t forget how much flowers can cost from the start, lots of brides are surprised by this later on.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew!
It's common for brides to buy a number of jars and glasses with the idea of making their own wedding flowers, but then quickly become overwhelmed. We've had a fair few calls, asking to take over the stress of DIY projects, which more often than not can become more expensive than hiring a proper florist from the start.
Don’t leave it Too Late
If you give us plenty of time to organise your flowers not only will we be able to order exactly what you want, we have lots of time to discuss and make sure that everything is perfect and also time to replace flowers if anything terrible happens in transit. If you order at least minute we will do our absolute best to work to your colour scheme, but we may be limited in flowers available in your specific colour.
