What should I ask my Wedding Photographer?

What should I ask my Wedding Photographer?

When selecting your wedding photographer you may feel a bit overwhelmed by the choice, it's up to you whether you want to look locally or further afield for a style you really like. In our aid to help, we've put together some key questions for you to bear in mind when you first meet a prospective photographer.
  1. Do you have a portfolio of past weddings? This will be very useful to gauge the photographers' style and ability.
  1. Can you do a pre-wedding photo shoot? This is a great way to develop a relationship with the photographer which will make you feel more relaxed on your wedding day. Some couples have this as an engagement shoot or use the pictures on wedding stationery.
  1. Can I show you some images that I would like to re-create? You'll get ideas of what you like and what you don't by looking through their portfolio and online site.
  1. How much of the day do you cover? Some photographers arrive just before the ceremony whereas others arrive early to capture the ’getting ready' shots. Some leave just after taking photos in the middle of the day and some will stay until after the cake is cut or even the first dance.
  1. What would be your schedule for the day? Check with your photographer what their preferred photography schedule would be this will help you plan the timings for your wedding. They should have a good idea how much time they will need in the middle of the day to get all of the images you have requested.
  1. What style of photography do you mainly do? Photo-journalistic style? If you do, will you also do some traditional wedding photos?
  1. In general how many photos do you take? And how many of those photos will I receive in the end?
  1. How soon after will I see my proofs? You will probably want to see your photos as soon as possible, If you're going on honeymoon straight after your wedding, your proofs will more than likely be ready for your return.
  1. Can I keep my proofs or do I have to purchase them?
  1. What do I get in your basic wedding package? What other options do you have?
We recommend that you try to develop a personal connection with your photographer as you'll spend a lot of your wedding day with them and you need to feel comfortable in their presence.
