Who would have thought that I would be writing this piece about the challenges for funeral flowers in a pandemic…
However in just a few short weeks we all know how difficult things have become for organising funerals during the CoronaVirus crisis and funeral flowers are no different – so here goes…
High Street Florists
At this time when High Street Florists have shut their shops, it is still worth contacting them if you are looking for fresh funeral flowers as many are working with social distancing inside and yet more are working from home. The supply chain with flowers has had huge problems over the past few weeks but there are some flowers coming from Holland now, and of course, nearly all our fresh flowers are sourced from British Farmers so this supply has been really good for Spring Flowers. (We are looking forward to Lily of the Valley, Sweet William and Pinks in the next week or two… )
Simplifying Funeral Flowers
However, we’ve taken a look at how we operate here and we don’t send fresh flowers via DPD delivery service as the complications at the moment mean that if something goes wrong or is delayed with a funeral tribute it could be really distressing for all concerned. We do very local hand deliveries for simple fresh funeral sheafs between us and Hereford City but that’s about it.
Long-Lasting Fully Compostable Funeral Tributes
We know how important a funeral tribute is, - and so have been thinking of ways to be able to put together something really beautiful and at the same time, a tribute that will last and is extremely simple to send and receive.
To this end, we have designed a dried flower funeral sheaf. No two are ever the same but each one is made up of all sorts of beautiful, natural, dried flowers hand-tied in our farm floristry. You can, of course, write your tribute which we can put in with the flowers, and you can have it sent to your home address or the funeral directors’ (you will need to check with them first of course) and even better it can be despatched several days before the funeral so that you (and we) know it’s arrived in good time. As the flowers are dried they will last for weeks but every part of this arrangement is natural and is plastic-free and so it will compost naturally over time without any issue.
